I have read a lot of negative reviews here BUT this one will not follow down that path. We made a reservation for 6. Arrived on time and we were seated within 2-3 minutes. Our server arrived within minutes for our drink orders and upon her return was quite helpful with questions we had from the menu. Our chef was extremely friendly and talented the kids really enjoyed the show. The food was delicious all the way around everyone was very satisfied. The restaurant was well lit and cozy. We all enjoyed our time and meal and will definitely be back!

Food was good, they cooked it with a show. It was our cooks first week... so the show wasn't as good as the other tables, the waitresses were awesome and funny, nicely attentive. The inside looked similar to a traditional Japanese restaurant, with many rooms each filled with 4 cooktops, you sit around the table others facing the cook/cooktop. Overall a nice experience, we'll do this again sometime.

We went to Genji @ San Jose for dinner last night. It's located in an old building that has a retro vibe, like we were back in the 80s. The place was very busy and lively, with a lot of people celebrating their birthdays. We enjoyed hearing the happy songs and cheers throughout the night. The food was decent, but not outstanding. We ordered the beef and shrimp combo for $42 and the seafood combo for $54. The portions were generous and the ingredients were fresh, but the sauces were a bit bland and the presentation was not very appealing. We expected more from a Japanese restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive, though. Our waitress was very helpful and patient with our questions and requests. She brought us our food and drinks quickly and checked on us regularly. She also gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary, which was very sweet of her. Overall, we had a good time at Genji, but we were not blown away by the food. It's a nice place to go for a casual and fun night out, but not for a special occasion or a fine dining experience.

I picked this spot tonight as I saw the establishment as I was driving towards my hotel and the sign & prospect of a Japanese dinner sounded amazing! It was a classic Teppanyaki style restaurant with multiple grills surrounded by a u-shaped seating area. The choices were about the same as you'd expect at a typical teppanyaki joint and I chose my classic favorites: filet mignon & shrimp with grilled vegetables and fried rice. The service was great, and I had lots of smiles and laughs watching the child sitting at my table watching the chef's antics and tricks. If I stay in the same area of San Jose again, I'd definitely come back for another meal!
